Road Safety Hero - Jess Darnley

National Leader and Deputy Youth Representative, Students Against Dangerous Driving (SADD) / Kaitiaki o Ara

Jess worked on a project in 2021 to create social media road safety ‘stickers’ for SADD after noticing that there weren't any appropriate road safety sticker options on social media. Jess worked with the SADD team to set up a Giphy account and create a range of stickers covering specific holiday periods and long weekends, as well as general awareness messaging.

The stickers can be shared on channels such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat and used by young people when they are sharing road safety and SADD content/messaging. Jess has created over 25 stickers, which have had around 13 million views globally.

Her stickers give SADD students and other young people a way of using social media to raise awareness of road safety and add to the practical activities they are already doing

Jess also followed SADD's first Youth Representative on SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara Board of Trustees and was endorsed by her peers to the first Deputy Youth Representative (2022). She has already given a lot of time to SADD, but has also added a further commitment of 2 years by taking up the full Youth Representative role in December this year.

Thank you, Jess, for being a Road Safety Hero.
